The Safer COVID-19 Response Checklist offers managers of health services, practitioners and health policymakers, a practical, actionable summary of important measures for preventing, reducing and mitigating the effects of violence against health-care workers and patients during the COVID-19 response. It also contains a series of online references to help understand and implement these measures.
This checklist was proposed and developed to fill an observed current gap in the COVID-19 response: the vast majority of guidelines released so far have not considered the risks and consequences of violence against healthcare. As it addresses this cross-cutting and fundamental issue, the checklist may be used in all contexts to shape the COVID-19 response, complementing other health-focused technical tools.
It has a strong emphasis on trust-building, ethics/accountability and community-engagement, as well as the importance of supporting the healthcare personnel who may be exposed to violence through such a long and demanding crisis. The checklist aims at developing at community-level (health staff and users of the services) a conducive and safe environment for health teams to operate in.
