The second part of this WHHS Journal issue contains three articles written by authors from the Organisation for Cooperation and Development (OECD). It is important for hospital managers to know how their hospital is performing on the outcomes that matter. To this end, the OECD measures and compares health outcomes and helps governments make relevant policies to achieve high performing health systems. In the these articles, Slawomirski and Van den Berg show that health systems overlook outcomes that matter for the patient and provide examples, Couffinhal proposes solutions to tackle wasteful spending in hospitals and health systems, and Ehler and Padget describe the approach to measure and compare international hospital performance.
