The Specialty Hospital Successful Response to COVID-19
In December 2019, before any COVID-19 cases were reported in Jordan, The Specialty Hospital formulated an awareness plan that included a COVID-19 response. It also increased its purchasing orders for PPEs and other medical supplies such as ventilators, hand sanitizers, and medications to cover the hospital’s needs for at least three months. Because of its early preparation efforts, The Specialty Hospital was the first private institution to offer PCR testing in the country when the pandemic finally struck. Later on, the hospital also introduced the GENE expert rapid test and bought a new machine and extra kits to increase the capacity of PCR testing.
The hospital administration responded quickly to ensure the safety of the patients, staff and visitors. Some of the actions taken include dedicated access doors in which staff did visual triaging, temperature check for all visitors and staff, a restriction on the number of visitors, and the implementation of the Ministry of Health’s instructions and the defense orders.
The hospital also activated an emergency staffing plan in which a number of staff were dedicated per department. These staff members received a permit for movement during curfew, and were also provided accommodation and transportation. The administrative staff were allowed to work from home. These initiatives successfully kept the hospital free from COVID-19.
