SPMS and DGS
Servicos Partilhados do Ministerio de Saude (SPMS) is the Portugal Health Ministry’s central purchasing and IT authority. To support the Health Ministry in battling the pandemic, the SPMS developed a digital tool that helped in the self-reporting of COVID-19 symptoms and the tracing of potentially infected patients.
The Self-Report & TraceCovid-19 tool was launched in April and allowed hospitals to attend suspected and confirmed non-critical cases from a distance. The tool was developed in collaboration with various stakeholders. The SPMS merged its own technological knowledge with the clinical expertise of various healthcare professionals to develop an evidence-based tool that provided precise and effective treatments for patients even at a distance. This reduced the burden on public health authorities and streamlined the delivery of care to non-critical patients
More recently, the tool has been integrated with STAYWAYCOVID, a tracking application that can be voluntarily used as a complement for epidemiological tracking. STAYWAYCOVID allows users to receive notifications about their individual exposure to confirmed COVID cases.
