RMS Mission to Contain COVID-19 Spread in Jordan
Upon getting the news of the spread of COVID-19 virus worldwide, RMS took the initiative to put its expertise to use to help the country to contain the spread of the virus by creating the various initiatives. First, it created the RMS COVID-19 committee, which oversaw the country’s overall response. Second, the RMS created its own risk assessment tool to help curb the spread of disease. Third, it established a 24/7 operation room for database and medical record collection, centered in the directorate of the Royal Medical Services and connected directly to all central and peripheral hospitals and primary care centers.
In collaboration with both public and private hospitals, the RMS also created a protocol for triaging emergency cases and diagnosing suspected cases. Sufficient protective tools were also provided and maintained in all the RMS health centers and hospitals. Mobile field hospitals were established to screen all repatriated Jordanians as well as foreign arrivals. Special COVID-19 centers were created in the major cities of Amman and Aqaba, fully equipped with top-notch ICUs and leading respiratory consultants. Tests were performed aggressively; to date, Jordan’s testing capacity stands at 35,000 per day. Because of this quick and coordinated response, Jordan was able to quickly flatten the curve of the pandemic.
