Pronep Life Care Sodexo
The Challenge of Home Care Facing the COVID-19 Pandemic
Pronep Lifecare Sodexo is a home hospitalization company in Brazil, covering the three large states of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Espírito Santo. It has almost 2000 patients under its care, mostly senior patients with pre-existing conditions. When the pandemic struck, the organization faced a big challenge in ensuring that its vulnerable patients received the same quality of care while at the same time protecting them from the virus.
To address this challenge, the organization implemented an innovative method of home care coupled with telemedicine. It launched an exclusive telephone channel for psychological, financial, social and legal support, which was available to its entire workforce as well as to its patients, their family members and clients. It also launched initiatives such as a home flu vaccination campaign for patients in the high-risk group. Pronep also opened a virtual channel which allowed its healthcare professionals to quickly identify suspected cases and notify the appropriate agencies.
Driven by Pronep’s agile response, its patients and staff were spared from the worst effects of the pandemic. The positive COVID-19 median rate of reported cases was kept at just 0.6%, while the mortality rate was 1.0%. Through its innovative approach to home care, Pronep achieved impressive figures despite being in one of the worst-hit countries in the world.
