Heathcote Health & Energesse
PMme – A Gold Standard Pandemic Safety Management System by Energesse
Heathcote Health is a regional public health facility consisting of a small hospital, aged care facility, community services and a primary care center. Due to the threat of the pandemic, Heathcote Health’s CEO, Dan Douglass, invested significant time and resources in COVID-19 preparedness planning utilizing a pioneering innovative tool, over and above government compliance requirements. The Emergency Management Team at Heathcote Health co-developed and utilized the Energesse tool to assess any additional risks and ensure the safety of its local population and staff.
The Energesse tool highlighted the value of robust, systematic and independent evaluation of vulnerabilities in pandemic planning. It identified 10 new unmitigated preparedness gaps and uncovered existing compliance tools. The tool also identified 55 preparedness actions, which were subsequently prioritized for implementation by the Heathcote Health management team. Lastly, the tool also recommended evidence-based best practices.
This activity opened Heathcote Health’s perspectives that the problem for organizations is that they use static checklists for audits and protocols around pandemic preparedness and safety. This is quickly outdated in the COVID environment, as guidelines change almost daily. The audits are often paper based and filed away, never to be reviewed again, they needed to create a digital record-keeping platform. Energesse’s focus as an audit plus decision-making support tool allowed hospital executives to determine vulnerable areas and provided invaluable insights through a robust pandemic management plan.
