Dr. Hung’s ENT Clinic
Preparedness / Response for COVID-19 Pandemic in Taiwan Primary Care Clinic
In 2003, the SARS epidemic struck Taiwan, taking a heavy toll on public health and the economy. In light of this experience, Dr. Hung’s ENT Clinic has been proactively participating in disease prevention educational training, preparing adequate quantities of materials for disease prevention, conducting Influenza Screening Tests, and taking part in the disease prevention network organized by Taipei City Government. When COVID-19 struck China at the end of 2019, the Clinic contacted Taipei City Government and the Taipei Medical Association in an attempt to proactively prepare for disease prevention.
As a primary care provider, the clinic used various methods to deal with the pandemic. Posters were put up at the entrance of the clinic to remind patients about health protocols, and any patient found with related symptoms were requested to isolate and referred to a nearby hospital. Teleconsultations were also provided for patients who were under home quarantine.
Dr Hung has been a driving force in crafting a cohesive COVID-19 response. Early on, he had recommended that the Taipei Medical Association should set up a COVID-19 Prevention Task Force; Dr. Hung was appointed as the convener once the task force was set up. Taipei City’s mayor has also appointed the Taipei Medical Association as a bridge for communicating between the public department and clinics, and delegated Dr. Hung as the person in charge.
