Clínica Modelo Lanús
Compassionate Visitation Management And Post Mortem Disposition
Apart from tending to the healthcare needs of its patients, Clinica Modelo Lanus also focused on finding ways to make COVID-19 treatments more humane for patients and their families. It pioneered a compassionate visitation protocol, through which family members can visit confined patients under certain conditions. Hospital staff attended such visits at all times to ensure that health protocols were maintained, and all visitors wore full personal protective equipment. The hospital’s staff worked hard to make family members understand the risk involved and make visitors abide by the established norms while immersed in a distressing situation.
In the case of deceased patients, exceptional measures have been put in place to guarantee the security of their recognition and easy identification. Regarding the final disposition of the body, the hospital has established a protocol of placing bodies first in a transparent bag followed by a second opaque one. The objective of the first is to enable the recognition of the deceased without needing the bag to be opened, thus avoiding any exposure. These measures humanized the hospital’s service and gave family members a measure of comfort during an extremely challenging period.
