Independent Hospital Rises Above The Rest: Quality and Safety During The Pandemic and Beyond; Bristol Health, Inc.
Bristol Health proactively addressed the pandemic even before it hit the state of Connecticut. Early on, key stakeholders and subject matter experts were already given clear roles and responsibilities, ensuring the smooth delivery of services once the first COVID case was confirmed. All clinical and physical resources were also mapped out, and a partnership with community health and municipal stakeholders was established.
As the government declared a state of emergency and the first case appeared in Connecticut, Bristol Health was already on the move. The organization established a testing site within 24 hours to support the community, decrease spread of the disease and reduce emergency visits.
As an independent hospital, Bristol Health’s Emergency Command Center established top priorities: staff protection, safe care for COVID patients, and maintaining core values of high quality and compassionate care. Data-driven decisions were made by tracking and vetting the latest information and best practices from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the federal government, and state and professional organizations. As a result, Bristol Health’s COVID mortality rates remain below state average, demonstrating its excellent quality of care. Many of its quality measures remain top in the nation and its staff COVID rates are minimal to zero, demonstrating its outstanding care internally and externally.
